Taste our Spartan menu
The culinary concept which inspired the Magic Potion of Asterix, modelled loosely on the Black Broth, the daily superfood of Ancient Spartans. The inventor of the Black Broth was within the Seven Sages of Ancient Greece and its recipe remained a closely guarded secret of the hereditary sect of the Spartan cooks. Their dishes were the privilege enjoyed by the most renowned warriors of the ancient world. From the 300 of Leonidas and their hearty last breakfast before entering the realm of Legend to the campfire cooking that extracted the 10,000 of Xenophon from Babylon to Byzantium, and followed King Agesilaus in his swath to the heart of Asia Minor. Combined with the dishes and tastes sanctioned by the most emancipated and proud women of the ancient era, the stalwart wives and stern mothers, the Spartan womenfolk, all concentrated in an unprecedented menu.
